cAMPING OVERVIEW

Read below to find out more about the camps we facilitate.

THE CAMPS
The May Camp

The May Camp is a camping and walking weekend (Stretton Family Ramble Club) using a different campsite each year. In 2018, we went to a site near Bala and in 2019, we went to Devils Bridge, We were blessed with good weather and the site was very luxurious with a very classy toilet block. In previous years we have been to Llanfair Caereinion, Machynlleth, Bettws-y-Coed, Rhayader, Dolgellau, Llangollen, Bala, Hay-on-Wye and Llanfyllin.

The Summer Camp

The summer camp which is the highlight of the year is held at Grassington near to the river Wharfe. We go for a week  - 2019's summer camp was notable for good weather a low river and raining only when it did not matter.  Everyone had a great time including rowing on the River Nidd and a visit to Spofforth Castle. As usual we visited Brimham Rocks and had several games of chain tigs. We visited The Museum of the Moving Image at Bradford which was followed by a lot of splashing about in the city park near the museum. Once again we built dens in the woods which turned out rather well. We actually finished the camp a day early as the forecast for the final day was awful so rather than pack up in the rain, we broke camp the day before.

The Autumn Camp

The Autumn Camp is held at Nant Col Waterfalls, a wonderful site with all mod-cons near Harlech. The last years camp have been marked by a mixture of weather, though enjoyably warm for October. Playing games  on the sand dunes at Barmouth was as exciting as ever with a lot of sand building going on. Once again we went on the Talyllyn Railway followed by a visit to Castel-y-Bere. The only down side this year was the rain that made taking down the tents on Friday a miserable affair - but that's camping isn't it!

The Winter Camp

The winter Camp is held at a remote site in Wales but only takes place if the weather is suitably wintery - the last few years have actually been too warm and wet.
