Stretton Family Rambling Club
Every year, the Stretton Family Rambling Club organises and runs a camping and walking weekend for children and adults on the May Day Bank Holiday weekend. The club uses campsites in mid and north Wales, arriving at the chosen site on a Friday evening and setting up the tents. On each of the following three days, everyone takes part in a day-long circular walk of between 3 and 8½ miles in length, starting from a point within 10 miles of the campsite. On the final day, all the equipment is packed away and the day's walk starts and finishes at the campsite. Everyone then returns home, having enjoyed a great weekend's walking in beautiful countryside.
Head over to the Photographs page to see pictures of the most recent Rambling Club outings, to give you a flavour of the things that we get up to!
Below is all the information needed for the Camping Ramble - I can email it all to you if you make a request to stanyeld@gmail.com

CAMPING RAMBLE
MAY DAY BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND, 2022
During the May Day Bank Holiday weekend, the Stretton Family Rambling Club (www.robinsoncamping.wixsite.com/club).will once again be organising a camping and walking weekend, staying for three nights at a site in Wales, yet to be decided
The sites we use always have full facilities and are often located on working farms.
The walks are circular and are suitable for families and children varying between 3 and 4 miles. The routes, chosen for their variety and views, are low level and stick to footpaths and trackways below 1,000ft (305m)
We will be departing from the Co-op car park in Church Stretton at 5.00 pm on Friday 29th April and returning to the Co-op car park on Monday 2nd May at about 6.30 – 7.00 pm. You can choose to make your own way to the site on the Saturday as long as you are ready to walk by 11:00am.
The weekend is arranged as follows; after reaching the site on the early evening of Friday, we will set up camp. On Saturday and Sunday, there will be all day walks; on the Monday, the tents will be packed followed by a walk finishing late afternoon, after which we will make our way home.
Children joining us for the weekend will need to bring their own personal belongings as per list. Everything else is provided although children wishing to use their own tents are very welcome to do so. If you wish to come as a family group, catering for yourselves and providing your own tents, you will be very welcome. Alternately, you can join in with everyone else. Help with transport is always appreciated.
This year, the cost will be £.41.00 per Adult, £36 per child.(Pro rata for part stays)
The Camping Ramble is open to all so if you know of other people who would like to come, they will be very welcome. (Extra forms provided on request).
Overleaf is brief information about the campsite and its facilities together with a résumé of the costs. The next sheet has the equipment list and the programme for the weekend. The final sheet is the all important Reply Form which should be completed and returned as soon as possible. Please contact me if you need any additional information.
All the past Camping Rambles (annually for 45 years) have been hugely enjoyable and very successful and I’m sure that this one is going to be every bit as good. I’m looking forward to seeing you all in May.

CAMPING RAMBLE REQUIREMENTS
The following list will be a useful guide to deciding what to take. The weather in May can be very changeable so clothing to cover very hot and dry to cold and wet will be needed. Old durable clothes are fine, tidiness is unimportant. Shorts are recommended walking wear unless it is cold. Strong, comfortable trainers are fine for walking.
Sleeping bag(s) & nightwear & sleeping mat Spare footwear
Washing kit (soap, flannel, toothbrush, etc) Woolly hat and gloves
Lots of socks (preferably wool based) Plastic bags for used clothing
Underwear Lunch box & drinks container
Warm shirts, pullovers Warm, windproof jacket
Shorts, trousers Wellingtons (can be useful)
Swimming costume Spare torch batteries
Towels Plasters (for minor cuts, etc)
(I always bring spare sleeping bags and supply pieces of carpet to sleep on in the tents.)
The following items are essential:
Cagoule or similar totally waterproof garment.
Walking footwear, hat, working torch.
A comfortable Rucksack or Day Bag.
The following points apply mainly to the unaccompanied children:
Bring a packed tea with you on Friday to eat later on in the evening.
Take Travel Sickness tablets if you need to, and have extra ones for the return journey.
Put all your belongings in a bag/case etc and try to make sure that all your kit is named - it helps when sorting out lost property. Indelible pens are good for clothes. Spending money is left to your own discretion. Please remember that the safe keeping of money, electronic devices and valuables must remain the responsibility of the owner.
It is important that children respect the property on the campsite and that there may be people using the site who will not appreciate excessive noise especially at night.
Children are expected to behave in a sensible manner at all times.
It is important that everyone who needs transport arrives promptly at 5.00 pm on the Friday as the journey is a long one and time will be needed to erect tents before it gets dark.
